Are You Smarter Than A 5 Year Old?

May 16th, 2008 by Robert Fountain

You know what I’ve noticed? Most 5 year-olds know and acknowledge their need for adult supervision and guidance.

I remember once when my son David was about that age that he chose to disregard my advice about a purchase. The result was just what I had told him it would be; disaster. His beautiful, new little plastic toy broke. But he learned a valuable lesson; the old man knows what he’s talking about. Sometimes God actually allows you to go ahead and do something that He knows will yield negative results because in His economy the lesson you’ll learn is worth the disaster you’ll endure.

Sometimes, in order to learn experientially that the Word of God is true, you and I must walk through some fire and/or swim a raging river, or two. Romans chapter one, our focus on Sunday morning, tells us that God’s wrath is revealed from heaven in that He gives us over to our demands. That’s true for societies, not just individuals, by the way. However, it’s essential that we remember the fact that even as He releases us into the sometimes disastrous consequences of our foolish demands, His heart remains that of a devoted Father!

God’s motive in revealing His wrath (in this age of grace) is not that we would be destroyed, but that we would learn to listen to Him and to trust His counsel. Of course, for those who continue to insist upon their own rebellious demands, the end result will BE destruction, but that certainly isn’t the Father’s desire.

Have you asked for His input yet today?..

JUST A THOUGHT…
